"Someday" is a song sung by the American female singer Mariah Carey. The lyrics and score of the song are written by Mariah Carey and Ben Magurais and produced by Ricky Wick. This song was included in Mariah Carey's first studio album "Mariah Carey" and was released by Columbia Records on November 15, 1990, as the third single of the album.
"Someday" topped the Billboard Top 100 Singles Chart and the Billboard Top 100 Dance Charts, becoming Mariah Carey's third single on the Top 100 Singles Chart and the first single to top the Top 100 Dance Chart. In 1991, "Someday" was nominated for the "Best Dance Music Award" at the National Music Awards and helped Mariah Carey win the BMI Pop Music Award for Best Songwriter Award.
"Someday" is one of four songs in the demo tape that Mariah Carey gave to Tommy Motorrad. Mariah Carey explained that Ben Magurais would play different notes on the electronic keyboard when writing a song. Maria came up with chord changes, lyrics, melody, and harmony. Producer Ricky Vick later recalled that "Someday" was his favorite song from the beginning of the recording of the album. Mariah Carey later revealed that "Someday" was one of her favorite songs. However, Sony Records made a new adaptation of the rough version in the audition tape. Mariah Carey was not satisfied with the final version, but Powerless.
"Someday" is a vibrant dance-pop song with the influence of New Jack's swing. But some of the rhythm arrangements and electric guitar solo in the song make "Someday" sound like a song that is not timeless.
