Rayman is a party game released for the Nintendo Wii in 2006. It aims to take advantage of the Wii's motion controls and help users understand them. Although this was not its original intention, it also began the long-running Rabbit series, which featured the titular rabbit-like creature.

The rabbit's name is a combination of "rabbit" and "rabid". Together, they highlight the creatures' design inspiration, crazy, aggressive behavior, and personalities.
