American Film Institute (AFI), founded in 1967, is an independent non-profit organization founded by the National Arts Foundation. The film is afi's list of the greatest romantic films of the century out of 400 nominations for American films, as an important part of the American Film Academy's "hundred years" series-- AFI's 100 Years.... Passions, a romantic comedy starring Cher and Nicholas Cage, is released in December 1987. It tells the story of an Italian woman in New York City who falls in love with her fiance's brother.

The film was not only a hit, but also was shortlisted in six categories at the 60th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best supporting Actor, winning three awards: best original Screenplay, Best Actress and Best supporting Actress. Actress Cher, Cherilyn Sarkisian, was born in California, USA on May 20, 1946, American film and television actress and pop singer.

Cher's musical achievements were mainly in the 1960s and 1970s, and her songs ranged from the pop songs of the girls' group in the 1960s to the folk songs of Jackie Deshannon, and then to the pop music of Dusty Springfield style.
