The story continues as Sonic's adventure unfolds. This game introduces Sonic's right-hand man, Tal, to follow Sonic to prevent Dr Egghead from taking the Chaos Emerald.

Sonic discovered West Side Island in a new adventure, landed the plane, the Tornado, and stopped to rest. At the same time, a suspicious flying object landed on the other side of the island.

It is said that long ago, the island's original inhabitants gained prosperity with a mysterious gem. Gradually, the desire of the original inhabitants became stronger and stronger. When they wanted to abuse it, their civilization disappeared overnight, and people had to seal the gems in the deepest part of the island.

Soon after, Sonic found a shy orange fox quietly following him, and when Sonic turned around, he quickly hid behind the palm tree. His name is Miles Prower (Miles Prower), but because he has two tails, he is often called "Tails" (Tails), and this also makes him usually the object of bullying. However, after Sonic came to the island, Tars decided to be as handsome as Sonic. Knowing that Tars was not malicious, Sonic made friends with him and freely explored the island.

One afternoon, Tars found a plane staying on the beach. As a beginner with great interest in machinery, he hurried to check it out. Egghead has taken over chemical plants, oil refineries, and cities-he controls almost everything! Sonic quickly set off to stop Dr Egghead, and the curious Tars chased after him.

The two heroes, Sonic and Tars, travelled all over the West Island to rescue the kidnapped animals and stop Dr Egghead at the same time. After liberating the entire island, Egghead drove his flying fortress and fled in panic. Sonic and Tars also prompted a "tornado" to keep up. However, the "tornado" was hit, and Sonic had to continue without Tars' help. After defeating the egg head again, the egg head retreated to the egg star, and Tars quickly escalated the Tornado so that Sonic could catch up with the egg head. On the space base, they fought a decisive battle with Dr Egghead. Dr Egghead also took out his housekeeping weapon: "deadly Death Egg Robot". In the end, Sonic won. The Egg Star exploded. Sonic almost failed to escape and fell into outer space. Tars drove the Tornado to rescue him and became his best friend and right-hand man.
