The French Connection is a 1971 American police thriller film directed by William Friedkin and produced by Philip D'Antoni. This film is adapted from Robin Moore's 1969 non-fiction book "The French Connection: A True Account of Cops, Narcotics, and International Conspiracy". This film tells the story of New York City Police Department agents Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle and Buddy "Cloudy" Russo hunting down the wealthy French heroin smuggler Alain Charnier. The two agents are based on real agents Eddie Egan and Sonny Ge Rosso. Starring Kim Hackman as Popeye, Roy Shedd as Cloudy, and Fernando Rey as Charnier. Tony Luo Bianco and Marcel Bozzuffi also performed. In a nightclub scene in the film, there is a third-degree space singing group performance.



This film is the first R-rated film to win the Oscar for Best Picture. Actor Kim Hackman became famous for his performance as a fierce detective and is a representative work. William Friedkin and Kim Hackman won the Oscar for Best Director and Best Actor for the film; it is worth mentioning This film is the first Hollywood movie to have a car chasing each other in a city, and it was selected by the American Film Institute as the 93rd AFI 100-year-old film. The sequel was "French Drug Network 2" in 1975. Kim Hackman and Fernando Rey played their roles again.
