The French Connection is a 1971 American police thriller film directed by William Friedkin and produced by Philip D'Antoni. This film is adapted from Robin Moore's 1969 non-fiction book "The French Connection: A True Account of Cops, Narcotics, and International Conspiracy". This film tells the story of New York City Police Department agents Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle and Buddy "Cloudy" Russo hunting down the wealthy French heroin smuggler Alain Charnier. The two agents are based on real agents Eddie Egan and Sonny Ge Rosso. Starring Kim Hackman as Popeye, Roy Shedd as Cloudy, and Fernando Rey as Charnier.
