What is it? Battle Royale at its best. Over the course of a year, three games have dominated the genre: Fortnite, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, and Apex Legends. But Call of Duty: War Zone takes every element of Battle Royale and mixes it with something new and familiar that's exciting and easy to pick up.

When you die, you can respawn once in a 1-1 battle by fighting another dead enemy. You can earn cash by completing contracts all over the map, chasing enemies, finding chests, or defending an area. Then you can spend money on equipment that you design between matches according to your play style.

Then there are the old, comforting parts: the ever-shrinking play area, the perfect "ping" system for tagging items for your teammates, and the vehicles that teleport you to distant circles. It's the most successful game of its kind to date, all based on the low-recoil gunplay tested in Call of Duty, which gives everyone a chance to kill. You can play alone, but teaming up with friends, platoons, and even the messy four-soldier squad mode is the real fun.
