The Wild Wild West is an American Western spy and science fiction television series that aired on the CBS television network for four seasons from September 17, 1965 to April 11, 1969. The two satirical comedy TV films were produced in 1979 and 1980 respectively, and they were adapted into a drama film in 1999. The series was developed at a time when Western TV gradually lost the spy genre. The show has many fantasy elements, such as the technologically advanced devices used by agents and their opponents. The combination of the Victorian time frame and Verne-style technology enabled Steampunk’s multiple websites to use this film as a pioneering influence of the genre. This aspect was even more prominent in the 1999 film adaptation. The series was cancelled at the end of the fourth quarter because the US Congress made concessions due to television violence.
