Nintendo's Super Mario 3D World was no. 4 in sales in August, but it still topped the NPD Group's annual list of top-selling games. Thanks to an advanced port released in February 2021, the game had sold more than 12.55 million units across all platforms as of June, according to Nintendo. Out of 12.55 million games, 6.68 million Switch versions were sold.

First released in 2013, Super Mario 3D World has taken nearly a decade to build its fan base, build loyal users, and upgrade in various ways. Currently, with 93 Wii Metascore units and 89 Switch Metascore units, the game is one of the highest-ranked titles, showing that its high quality is matched by a large number of sales.
