John Winston Ono Lennon is a British singer and songwriter. He is known worldwide as a founding member of the Beatles, the most commercially successful group in the history of popular music. He and band member Paul McCartney formed the famous Lennon-McCartney composition. By 2012, Lennon's solo album sales in the United States exceeded 14 million. As a creator or singer, he participated in 25 Billboard Top 100 Singles No. 1 singles. In 2002, he was voted 8th in the BBC's "100 Greatest British" list. In 2008, "Rolling Stone" magazine selected him as the fifth "Greatest Singer in History". After his death, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987, and he was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, in 1988 as a member of the Beatles and in 1994 as an individual.
