The Thing is a science fiction thriller film directed by John Carpenter and co-starred by Kurt Russell and Wilford Brimley.
The film mainly tells a group of American scientific expeditions to the Antarctic. On the way, they encountered a Norwegian hunting an Eskimo dog. They were curious about this weird round-up operation; that night, several team members and dogs suffered from the Eskimo. The dog's assault caused the other team members to be aware that an unknown object was attached to their companions, but no one could tell who was normal.
An American scientist on an expedition to Antarctica discovered that all personnel at the research station had died bizarrely. After testing, they proved to be attacked by foreign objects of unknown origin and began to use fire attacks to deal with these alien objects.
The Thing is like a classic Mucus Alien Story, with various disgusting alien variants coming one after another. The film's model has a far-reaching influence. Carpenter has rendered the horror atmosphere to the extreme in the movie: the snow-covered South Pole, relatively closed character clues and event relationships, a "weird shape" possessed by the soul, and the audience does not know where it is. What will do? The whole movie is smooth and natural, and most importantly, it is terrifying. Although it is a remake, it has done enough articles on the cold war and terror. Compared with the original version, The Thing is full of originality.
The makeup in The Thing is incredible, and the visual effects are shocking. Of course, the calm rhythm of the film and the increasing tension are also essential. The film uses quirks, dark comedy elements to tell the story, plus super awesome The cast and Morricone's soundtrack, the director used these factors to completely render the film into a nervous drama about the delusion of isolation and fear (JJ Abrams review).
