It's the latest entry in Valve's FPS series. It seems like every object can be picked up and manipulated, and the accompanying animations, like the healing at HP Station, are a joy. These puzzles make you think about the levels around you in ways that a normal mouse and keyboard can't. One memorable example: To sneak past Jeff, an inaudible monster, you need to cover your mouth with your hand to keep the air from filling with deadly spores.
It has everything you'd expect in Half-Life, including an engaging story and an extraordinary ending, but the addition of VR takes it to another level. Gunfights are more compact, headshots are more satisfying, and dark corridors, with only a single beam of light from your all-important multi-purpose glove, elicit real fear. Not only is it the best virtual reality game ever made, it's also one of the best shooters ever made, and if you can find a helmet for a bargain, or borrow one from a friend, it's worth checking out Alyx's story.
